Helping Others Is Blessings in Disguise
From my days of growing up as a little kid, one of my fondest memories is entire family members gathered together and listening to tales of Indian mythology that my mother or father would narrate. The tales of Gods & demons, heroes & villain, sacrifice & rewards, good & evil, hell & heaven. Sometimes, even they shared the stories from their experience of life.
In summer time, we were sleeping in rooftop after dinner with the family. We prepared the bed after sprinkling the water to make rooftop cool and conditioned to have nice sleep.
I remember while bed time my father would tell us a story to all siblings. Here is story of heaven & hell that one holyman asked lord. What is difference between heaven and hell? Lord took the holyman to one room, in the room, some people are sitting in round dining table. In the middle of table there was a big pot of stew and a big spoon bigger than their hand wrapped around their hands but no one can eat. Everyone was hungry and dull. So this is called heaven.
Lord took holyman to other room, where some people are sitting around table and found to be big spoon wrapped in their hands same as in other room. Difference here was the people were quite happy and progressive. Reason was evident that in second room although people were not able eat for themselves but they started helping each other by feeding others in front of them even they were unable to do so for themselves.
At the end of the story my father gave emphasis on learning from the story. Those who help others are always growing and prospering. So our life is full of many instances that we help each other. Even in a time we help without anticipating any return from others. Sometimes good deeds repaid back to us as blessings in disguise.
Recently, I met an accident while driving by my car. I was going to my office and for one moment a two wheeler just ahead of me slowed down the speed because another two wheeler crossed him from left just before him. At that moment I could not control my speed and also hit the two wheeler. Although it was minor accident. Something miracle happened to me. All were safe. Pillion rider had some pain and I took him to hospital to get him checked and found to be alright. I was relieved. One thing I observed that a liquid came out from my car. I didn't had much attention and drove to hospital in anticipation to get relieved from this issue. After some time I found that engine meter was turning to high. I smelled something wrong and I took my car to service centre although I had driven down to 5 to 6 kms. Service centre personnel asked me that they will check the car and get back to me. Although I told him that since this is old not much repairing is required since I was planning to sell it of.After some day they informed that there was another fault of engine and the engine looks seize and they have to overhaul the engine. Estimated cost would be around 90,000/-. Even a time of repairing would take around another 10 days. So I was little disturbed with cost of repairing and time it takes. I put it on hold for some days because I was planning either to sell the car or get it repair or even thinking of buying new car.
Myself and my sons go for art and music class. My younger son was saying to manager that my father met a car accident.
By listening so everyone was surprised and asked me how it happened. So I narrated the incident and so immediately he asked me state of the car and he highly recommended me to do the repairing from local garage. I immediately took the car from service centre and took it to local garage. Owner of garage looks to be decent man. He told me that he will check thoroughly and update. In between I checked the status and given a quote of 11000/- only. I was surprised to see the difference and sametime I was happy as well that my car is getting ready at much lower cost.
I think this has happened because I could able to do better for others that has repaid back to me. I think every deeds or thoughts have power to impact us unconsciously. So let's help selflessly and see the wonders within ourselves.

60 Seconds Movement
Last year I joined Toastmasters Club to improve my communication skills. It is a wonderful platform not just for improving communication skills but also for thinking & leadership skills. Meeting with members, having a positive attitude of encouraging and helping others is bonus after being a part of the club.
In this club I met one of the members, Puneet Surana who is passionate in speaking and he is a part of the club for a quite sometime. Recently he has thrown up the idea of creating a group of people in WhatsApp for improving communication skills to group memebers. He created the group called '60 seconds movement'. Idea of this movement is to record your 1 minute speech on topic given by him and upload it in group everyday. All the members are not just encouraged to speak but also evaluated by others. I am also a member of the group.
Initially response to speaking offline was not good but he encouraged a lot to group members. I also pull of my socks and tried myself to speak for almost everyday. This is almost for a month and I observed the changes. Going forward, I must appreciate and thank Puneet for his wonderful effort and initiative.
So I would like to highlight the benefits of participating in this movement.
1. When topic is given, our mind starts thinking on finding relevant stories or anecdotes from different walk of lifes, sharing experiences, connecting dots. So mind gets busy towards positivity everyday. While listening the speech of others also increases no. of ideas & style of speaking & vocabulary. So everyday we can occupy our mind with 5-10 nos of speeches to learn & improve.
2. Recording on WhatsApp and uploading it to group, I can listen what I spoke about. I can have immediately reflection on self evaluation. What are areas I can improve upon, it may be grammar, content, flow, pauses, vocal variety. The scope of improvement is always in next speech.
3. In this forum, members are freely evaluating the speech of the others. I am also trying myself to observe the speech attentively and find the best part of the speech and also take out areas of improvement. This exercise helps me to improve on observation and evaluation skills as well.
4. Evaluation by others is the best part of this movement. Many a times, we feel what I am speaking or doing the best. More than that no one has time for others to give instant feedback. Having a genuine feedback by evaluator creates a lot difference in improvements. Just emphasis the point. In my speech, I usually make mistakes in grammar. Although I am trying for it to improve. But one of the members, Naveen Indala suggested me that I should try it again by writing the speech with correct grammar then speak. I followed the same and I find that my mind is more cautious while speaking now and gradually I am trying to overcome the mistakes.
I think such evaluation is nowhere is done except at Toastmasters club and at this forum in particular. Yes evaluation happens at time of performance appraisal in the organisation but evaluation are much delayed and even it may have some element of subjectivity.
5. This forum is very much safe and secure place to improve communication skill. Everyone is on the group to learn and improve. So even if you have shyness while speaking that may go away gradually and build the confidence in ourselves. Even you fail, there is a someone not to judge you but pat on back for coming forward to speak. It is like at every corner someone is there to hold your hands to pull out to support and push you further at next level.
So life is the name of continuous improvement and this movement is trying to make this happen. So I am hoping to see the immense change in each members of the group in meeting it's objective. I am sure this 60 seconds movement may make us 60 times change in ourselves.

Where Does Happiness Lie?
Happiness is a relative term. Its meaning changes person to person depending upon his culture, interest, occupation, aspiration, motivation & location.
Happiness is a state of mind free of all worries and heart filled with love, laughter and life. My happiness starts with many things. When I get up in the morning, my both kids wish me good morning and they come to me and hug me tightly. My wife is also not left behind to give me sweet smile. This makes my day.
When I go to balcony and see the morning beauty of nature makes me smile. It appears that music in air by chorus of birds and beauty of rising sun make the day set for rise and shine. This makes my heart filled with happiness and hopefulness.
Human is social animal and lives together by virtue of art of life, sharing, caring and loving. My happiness lies in when someone presents me with these gifts of art of life and other way round. My happiness enhances when I can be of any help to others.
Recently, I read an article that a man can grow happily when he starts donating out of his income. Moment he starts donating his time, money or energy to unprivileged people, his income and happiness bound to rise. If I look around in the world the most successful and richest person in the world, are those who are donating to unpriviledge from his income and also living the life for others with content and happiness.
Let's think how we should donate some part of our income to exponentially enhance our happiness quotients. So I am committed myself to donate something to needy ones, which I could not able to do so far.
So what do you think to make yourself happy?

Amazing Birthday's Return Gift!
My younger son, Swastik goes to day-care school after his regular class gets over by 12:30pm at Baldwin Boys' School. He is quite comfortable at his day care school, Mia Casa. He spent two precious years in this school. It was a great learning and improvement ground for him in last two years. I must complement and heartful thanks to team of Mia Casa.
The school celebrates kids' birthday in school and call their respective parents of the kids. We had also attended the birthday of Swastik. For a birthday boy, he feels more excited to celebrate with their friends, teachers and parents. More excitement comes in getting gift from others and also in distributing birthday's return gift. Normally we think of asking children to distribute candies or some other gift which kids are fond of.
Yesterday, when I reached home I found that a sapling pot at entrance of the gate. I asked my wife and said that Swastik got the birthday's return gift from one of friends. I was little surprised and elated that this gift may not be as sweet as cholocate or attractive as other gift but this gift can give the sweetest fruits to all of us. This gift may also made us realise that children are also coming forward to make our earth clean and green. They are trained, cautious and sensitive about out environment and mother earth. It's responsibility of keeping earth clean and green not just to few but many.
This gift made us understood that seeds of greener environment should not be postponed and to be planted them in each one of us in right way. I think this is one of the best gift distributed by a child in his birthday's return gift. May be this is a small effort but it can have multiplier effect on the minds of many. I must appreciate the parents of birthday boy. Let's recognise the effort and follow the new trend towards making our mother earth greener & cleaner.

Colouring of Life!
Last month I addmitted my son, Satwik to keyboard class to engage him in extra curricular activities. I found that the institute has also art class along with multiple instruments classes. My son found to be interested in it since he has also little learnt it in previous school at Guwahati. With this view in mind I admitted him in the institute.
I was also exploring myself to engage myself either in some instrument or art class. I was exploring one because I could go together with my son and also comes back together. More than this, I was exploring to to do something for myself which some point in my life had desire and dream but some how I could not do so...Art class so tempting for me that it appears my distant desire looks to be fulfilling once I join and learn. Without much of thought I discussed with teacher and he okayed to take me to join the class. He took some test by giving me to do colour and he told me that I can learn but I have some fear and lack of confidence. Nevertheless, it was quiet obvious I was doing some colouring at different phase of life after just small strokes in childhood, and even I am not regular art person or even I am not use of colouring.
But one thing was there with me that I realised I have passion for colouring. Passion to paint my creativity and imagination. I am delighted to join the class and started the colouring.
While joining, I realised that there is a light of desire within me to take art as passion. I am quiet happy to join and enjoy every moment of my learning. When Friday comes, I excited to eagerly wait for going art class on weekends. What a beautiful moment it is. I think, I made right decision to fulfilling my distant desire.

Can We Learn Leadership Lesson from Kid
IOn 2nd July, my elder son has birthday. So when he got up in the morning, myself and my wife wished him with love of hug and warm kiss. He also called his grandparents and sought their blessings. He dressed up in colourful dress and took a lot of candies to distribute them among school's friends and teachers.
While he was in school, class teacher calls the birthday boy and asks him to choose one friend to help him to go along around the school to distribute the candies.Boys are found to be excited to be with the birthday boy and most of them request for being part of it. Initially my son thought of choosing his best friend, Khalid. In mean while a boy who is just ahead of his desk and also new to class requested him to accompany him. He has not got any chance called by any of classmates.
The class teacher callled him and asked him to choose one of the boys to assist in helping him. He was asked by teacher to turn back without facing class and select one boy. As many of his friends requested to accompany him. Without much of thought he finally choose the new boy. The boy was quite happy and thanked him.
Satwik shared the story to me and then we realised that he had shown his leadership quality. Normally, boys choose his best friends to accompany him by giving friendly assistance and anticipate a never ending the friendship. I liked the way he thought about it and choose his new friend accompanying him. He had chosen the boy who was not got opportunities, may be this is a small effort but this gives a lesson for others. Leadership is about giving chance to each of team members and take them along in every walk of life. He made an effort to make friendship stronger and healthier.
I am quiet happy and elated to know the story told by him. I can see the leadership style of my son. Well done my boy!

What Do The Cuckoo Says
Every morning I get up at 5 am and first thing I heard from my balcony is sweet voice of Cuckoo. It is just like alarming bell which wakes up to me without setting the time at night. While going for walk in the complex I can observe many birds are joining the chorus with cuckoo and singing the sweet songs in the air.
While listening to the chorus in the air, I am trying to figure out what does these sweet songs means to us. What are they telling us? Why do they come out of their cocoon and putting effort without set an stage?
It appears that they are saying that "hey man look around yourself we birds are beautiful creature on the earth. We are important part of environment. But still we are not finding much space to live in cities. Cities are polluted and also for sake of living in home, you are destroying our home by cutting trees. Where do we go? Do we have any other planet to live in? Once you find any live in space in other planet do let me know. May be our generation would not exist by that time to fly away from earth to other planet. Still I am hopeful with human's new generation they may be sensitive to our living and stop cutting trees and plant more trees to live in not just for us but for entire living beings.
We birds continue our chorus songs in the morning as alarm till you listen to hear and take appropriate action."

Developing Creativity Within Children
We are obsessed by by logical and critical thinking and our education are also meant to develop them. Our course structure are made to develop logical and critical to take the challenges of stiff competition to face.
But it is no denying the fact that creative thinking has its own space and importance and may cross the limitation of competition that we face. That will create new opportunities and abilities to do differently.
So now the question arises that how do we create creating thinking abilities within children. Obviously, children are future of the country. This can be developed same time it is being done for logical and critical thinking. One way to do it by changing course structure in schools which may take time to implement the structural changes. Other way, I feel the simple way to ask 'right questions' to children in regular intervals of time. Right question means it intended to answers with thinking. Answer may not have wrong and right answers. Once we free from restrictions on answering those questions, their ability to thinking creative juice will start flowing. Initially it may take time and more importantly, patience to listen to the answers. May be somestimes, they may answer wiered but we need keep the listening encouraging them to think and speak. In such exercise, parents need to be encouraging and guiding to think and answers.
Just to illustrate the above point I cite here an example. Yesterday we had attended a wedding reception from my wife's colleague. We met with a lot of her colleagues and obviously with bride and bridegroom and wished them and parted gift to them. We enjoyed sumptuous dinner at Taj Hotel. Our children also enjoyed it. What we noticed that younger one also followed the observation and took plate and started eating by himself on the table. Normally, we used to feed them.
Next day, we asked our elder son, Satwik who is nine year old studying in class four. We asked him what did he observed in last night party? He didnt understood the point. We again elaborated, what are good and bad things you find at the party? How did you recognise bride and bridegroom?
We have one and two minutes time for think and answer it. He replied that good thing that in party it is place of meeting their friends, party has good food. Bad things about party that he observed that many of plates eaten by people out there were found to be leftover. Initially they filled the full which they found difficulty to finish it of. This is not good for our country.
He further answer that he could recognise bride and groom found to be on stage with nice attire looks like some film starts. We further elaborated him how to be observant as well in this context.
Few days back I asked what we should for reducing pollution? What should children do individual, home and country?
I think this is easiest way to develop their creative mind. It may take sometime to nurture those minds but once it is engineered and fueld rightly it will flew in the sky with high speed and scale like a rocket.

Importance of White
Excitement of a long awaited vacation started last month. it was not because for summer vacation for a longer period but excitement of vacation lies in visiting to Leh and Kashmir. My children kept on asking when they are going to play in snow. While coming from Delhi to Leh by flight, we could see the beauty of snow capped mountain. It was messimerising that children could not stop their excitment to see it. When we landed in Leh airport, get the feel of the temperature difference. Pleasant air breeze with chilling effect and snow capped mountain view all around made the butterfly in our stomach.
Next day we headed to Kardung La Pass, the highest motorable peak in the world at 17500 ft. When we we were heading from 11500 ft to 17500 ft, we embraced the beauty of nature much closer. Our excitement were much more to see and touched them and finally we did. It was like white silky bedsheet wrapped the mountain beautifully. But while experiencing the same it reminded me and intrigued with a question that what is importance of white colour in our life? Most of time when we talk of colour, our mind occupies with rainbow colours. But what about white colour? How does it make difference to our life and nature itself?
'White' is a very friendly colour, gives home to all colourfull colours and their importance. If we want to have a beautiful canvas, we strike the brush in white paper itself and each colours are embolden in white background. While doing so white colour losses it visibility. It sacrifices its colour for other friends. Even we have noticed that while entering into new home we get the wall painted with white as base colour, others colours occupies in it later.
White finds importance in our culture and tradition. Our school uniform, white shirt are in white colour and learning at school starts with white chalk and white note book. Dhoti symbol of our long tradition is also white in colour. White also represents simplicity and transparency. It finds a place in our national flag. White flag represents pease & prosperity.
In nature, white tiger, white elephant and white peacock always attracted nature's lover because of their uniqueness.
What does come to your mind when you see white colour? Please leave your comment.

My Home Town is a Pot of Sweet Food with Memory
Every year I plan to visit to my home town with my wife and kids to meet our family members. Since it is so far off and due to paucity of time, only possible to make it happen atleast once in a year. But this is one time affair we try to utilise our time mostly spending with all family members.
Each of the places has its own culture and food habits and hence eating joints are made accordingly especially street side foods. This time, we had amazing time with family members having such delicious food, sweet and drinks not to be mistaken, drinks means lassi. My home town is Patna
Staying in Bangalore, I really miss my hometown especially for these food items. It is not just for tempting tastes but they remind me the old days of my childhood that was grown up filling hunger of food items with memory that etched in our mind. It reminds me how to stay in scarcity and sparingly spend little money that we had. It reminds me that when my father put down the shutter of his shop in the night and took me to market to buy vegetables and fruits, while returning he satiates my thirst with refreshing lassi at the corner of the market. It was not just lassi but also showing a sense of love from father to his son. He himself refreshing with a bundle of pan and pack it one for my mom.
In those days, we used to not having much of money. I used to save the pocket money and spend them with family and friends when an auspicious days to arrive, especially in Durgapur and Diwali. Going to chat corner with friends always been a place for chatting and laughing among ourself.
On our visit, we cherished ourself by visiting Mauralok and having eating liti chokha, faloda ice cream, rabri etc.
Making of samosa on every Wednesday from Charkha Samiti, still reminds us homemade touch made by Aganbadi women. This vacation, fortunately we were present on Wednesday and thoroughly enjoyed eating them with all family members.
In early morning, this time we had walked down to Gandhi maidan. While walking it reminds our old days of visiting to this place with entire family members gathered on Vijaya Dashmi to see 'Lanka Dahan' and eating lot of peanuts, the most acceptable time pass, golgappa, milkshake and a lot of munching foods to satiate the hunger. The place became like a great Indian show in just one ground.
My school was just 100 metre away from my home. This vacation I walked down and I felt just nostalgic in the morning. It was school time, children were entering to school. Outside the gate a lot street side vendors werr surrounded by children. It took me to my old days as if I was standing awaiting my turn to get 'chuski' by paying just Rs 1. While entering to school I used to take some jaggery made sweet called 'latha' for myself and my friends.
While spending time in home, the most memorable and refreshing time was getting homemade food that was been served by bhabhi. Nowwhere restaurant in the world can replace the homemade food. It is not because of its simplicity and hieginic but it contents love and affection eating and enjoying together. It reminds our old days, my mother used to cook delicious food especially Pulao and Paneer and we enjoyed every bit of it. My son likes very much halwa, not just him but everyone likes it since the recipe of halwa is given my mother, so he named it 'Dadi halwa'. This time while reaching home on first day my son asked for Daldi Halwa. My mother didnt held up herself for the love of grandson and cooked it for all of us and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am sure your home town must have etched unforgettable memory in your mind for love of food, family, friends and fun.
Do you have such memory? Please write your comment.
Yours

Everyday Is Special For Us, Just Need To Create It
My First Step!
I personally observed that I am not very expressive myself. My first step towards penning down blogging may help to be more expressive now.
With this tiny step, I will continue to write what I feel to write under Sun.
